Underground extension in Nuremberg

Construction work on the new U3 line is in full swing in Nuremberg: the existing U3 underground network has been extended since 2020 to provide the southern part of the city with better public transport connections.

The consortium consisting of HOCHTIEF and the Max Bögl Group is in charge of the project. The major contract includes the construction of two railway stations in Gebersdorf and Kleinreuth, a reversing facility and a depot in Gebersdorf. The associated tunnels will be built using both cut-and-cover and mining methods. The biggest challenge for everyone involved is the underpassing of the Main-Danube Canal between Kleinreuth and Gebersdorf.

By 2023, 7,500 tonnes of concrete steel from SÜLZLE Stahlpartner in Dessau-Roßlau, supported by the branches in Pressath, Nordhausen and Ehrenfriedersdorf, will provide the necessary stability. In addition, 1,030 tonnes of list mats from SOTRALENTZ CONSTRUCTION are being installed. The installation work is being carried out by SÜLZLE Armierungstechnik. The new route, which is around two kilometres long, is expected to go into operation in 2025.
