STOOX – Sustainable reinforcing steel for the construction projects of tomorrow

The construction industry is under increasing pressure to build more sustainably and significantly reduce CO₂ emissions. As a responsible family business, we at SÜLZLE Stahlpartner are committed to playing an active role in this transformation. Right from the planning phase, we support our customers with innovative solutions for environmentally conscious construction methods – above all with STOOX PCF steel, our sustainable reinforcement steel brand.

What is STOOX?

STOOX is sustainable reinforcing steel with a clear carbon footprint. The product carbon footprint (PCF) is recorded completely and transparently. The calculation methodology is validated by TÜV and includes all relevant process steps in the supply chain – from raw material extraction to delivery to the construction site.

With three clearly defined product variants, STOOX offers flexible options for differently demanding construction projects – always with the aim of making sustainability plannable, measurable and realisable. STOOX thus makes an active contribution to reducing emissions in the reinforcing steel sector – without compromising on quality, delivery capability or processing.

Transparency that creates trust

We are setting new standards with STOOX: the entire process for calculating the product carbon footprint (PCF) – i.e. the carbon footprint along the entire supply chain – has been validated by TÜV. This means maximum transparency and comparability in terms of environmental impact for planners, construction companies and investors.

Three product variants for different requirements

To meet the diverse requirements of the market, we offer STOOX in three different product variants:

  • STOOX PCF-Steel: Sustainable reinforcing steel with a clear carbon footprint (PCF), without a defined limit value in kg CO₂e/tonne. The calculation is averaged over the product mix based on the EPD of the supplier plants (A1-A3), system limit: ‘Cradle to Exit Gate supplier plant’.

STOOX PCF-Limited: Reinforcing steel with clear PCF and defined limit value < XXX kg CO₂e/to. Also averaged over product mix and EPDs of the supplier plants (A1-A3), system limit: ‘Cradle to Exit Gate supplier plant’.

STOOX PCF-Premium: Reinforcing steel with clear PCF and fixed limit value < XXX kg CO₂e/to, if required with extended system limit up to ‘Cradle to Entry Gate construction site’.

This allows our customers to select the CO₂-optimised solution that perfectly suits their projects – without compromising on quality, availability or workability.

Building climate-friendly together

With STOOX, we are driving forward climate protection in the field of reinforcement. Our aim is to make sustainable construction practicable and economically viable – for the construction projects of today and the generations of tomorrow.

We would be happy to advise you personally on STOOX by SÜLZLE or send you further information.

Tried and tested on the major U5 construction site in Hamburg

An impressive example of the practical use of STOOX is the construction of Hamburg’s U5 underground railway line. For the first time, CO₂ emissions were taken into account as a central evaluation criterion – including the entire supply chain. SÜLZLE Stahlpartner supplies reinforcing steel with a CO₂ footprint of less than 400 kg CO₂e per tonne, well below the originally defined target values.

The project shows how sustainable construction is becoming a reality – with STOOX as a reliable solution and TÜV-validated methodology for maximum transparency.

Explained simply and quickly: measurably sustainable building with STOOX

Find out how digital production technologies and a TÜV-validated calculation method make it possible to precisely track and verify the product carbon footprint (PCF) of the reinforcing steel. This transparency makes it possible to document the specific CO₂ footprint of the reinforcing steel for the subsequent CO₂ balancing of construction projects. Expert interview: Interview with Heinrich Sülzle

Why is sustainable reinforcing steel so important?

“Because as a fourth-generation family, we don’t just think in years, we think in generations! For us, this is more than just a product – it’s a promise. A promise to our children, grandchildren and employees that we will not only be economically successful, but also make our contribution to a future worth living. We are firmly convinced that real success is only possible if it is based on ecological and social responsibility. It’s about leaving as positive a footprint as possible. This is how I understand our responsibility at SÜLZLE and it motivates me every day!”

How does SÜLZLE realise this vision in practice?

“We rely on innovative solutions such as STOOX PCF Steel, which demonstrably reduces the carbon footprint. By using modern electric steel production, we achieve a recycling rate of around 90 per cent. In addition, the entire process for determining the carbon footprint of the reinforcing steel is validated by TÜV, which guarantees maximum transparency.”

What role does sustainability play in the future of the construction industry?

“Sustainability should not be an obstacle for the construction industry, but the ticket to the future! Of course, the climate crisis, the weak economy and stricter environmental regulations are challenging us all. But this is precisely the opportunity to lead the way with new ideas and technologies.

At SÜLZLE, we are convinced that with sustainable reinforcing steel such as STOOX and the courage to break new ground, we can make a difference together. The construction trade fairs and events I attended showed me once again that change starts with cooperation. I am motivated to tackle the insights we have gained together. Let’s shape the future now – with courage, optimism and determination.”
