Expansion of the A49 in Hesse

Hessen

Gap closure to four lanes

Between Fritzlar and the Ohmtal motorway junction, a motorway project is being built in a public-private partnership. In a joint venture (ARGE) with LEONHARD WEISS GmbH & Co. KG, STRABAG Großprojekte GmbH is taking over the construction of a new 31 km long section of the A49 motorway from Schwalmstadt to the A5. In addition to the four-lane gap closure in concrete construction, the contract of the consortium partners also includes the adaptation of the A5 motorway over approx. 1.5 km in the area of the Ohmtal triangle as well as the entire infrastructure around the route. The SÜLZLE Stahlpartner branch in Nordhausen is supplying the A49 project with 21,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel. The motorway is expected to be opened to traffic in autumn 2024.
