Largest diaphragm wall order in the history of SÜLZLE Stahlpartner
With the U5 underground line, HOCHBAHN is building one of the most modern and climate-friendly underground lines in Hamburg to connect important locations such as the university, UKE and the arenas. For the first time, CO2 emissions are being made a key assessment criterion during construction, taking the entire supply chain into account. Together with partners from industry, the aim is to reduce CO2 emissions by 70 per cent. From 2040, the U5 is to run emission-free and with 100 per cent green electricity on around 24 kilometres of track. For the realisation of the first U5 construction section, a consortium (ARGE) consisting of the companies Ed. Züblin AG and Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG.
The first construction work for lot 2 started in 2024 and initially comprises the diaphragm wall work for the construction of the two new stops Bramfeld and Barmbek Nord. SÜLZLE Stahlpartner in Seelze has been awarded contracts for the diaphragm walls of the underground line for lots 1.1, 1.2 and 2 for this mobility project. These are the two largest diaphragm wall orders in SÜLZLE Stahlpartner’s company history. Lots 1.1 and 1.2 have already been supplied since August 2023 until the end of 2024. For lot 2, only reinforcing steel with a carbon footprint of less than 500 kg CO2-eq per tonne of steel is to be used. The SÜLZLE sustainability team has been working on precisely this issue in recent years and was able to score points here with CO2-reduced reinforcing steel.
