Tübingen shines with 9-storey timber hybrid building
Flying high
In the industrial area of Tübingen, in the immediate vicinity of the Neckar, a new high-rise building has been occupied. The ‘Green Tower’ has reached an impressive height of 29 metres. Since May 2023, it has housed around 50 offices and 10 conference rooms for the main customs office in Tübingen. For the project developers of the ‘Green Tower’ and owners of the Tübingen-based company Meleo, Volker Prichystal and Steffen Schwab, it is a project for the future. The high-rise was built using an innovative hybrid construction method with wood, concrete and steel. A photovoltaic system on the roof supplies green electricity. The special feature of the building is the green façade, which provides both shade and natural cooling through the evaporation of plant water. For this extraordinary construction project, SÜLZLE Stahlpartner Rosenfeld supplied around 20 tonnes of processed steel profiles in conjunction with the timber construction for the interior and over 6 tonnes for the exterior cladding in 2022.
In addition, around 35 tonnes of walkways and railings from SÜLZLE STAHL Ehrenfriedersdorf were used for the exterior by August 2023. Although wood was predominantly used throughout the building, the use of concrete reinforcement for the basement, the lift and the load-bearing foundation was unavoidable. SÜLZLE Stahlpartner from Dusslingen supplied the necessary reinforcing steel for these areas.
