Review: Our event ‘Getting started’ with Solid Unit e.V. and Holcim

Exciting ideas

Together with solid UNIT e.V. and Holcim, our event ‘Getting Started’ took place yesterday, 5 March, at the Holcim Werkforum Dotternhausen. The focus was on how we can effectively reduce greenhouse gases in reinforcing steel and concrete and develop viable, sustainable solutions from ideas.

Wiebke Zuschlag and Thomas Zawalski from solid UNIT led the programme. Input came from Dr Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Matthias Howald (Holcim), Prof. Dr Lucio Blandini and Dr Pamela Zuschlag (GOLDBECK Technologies GmbH), Heinrich Sülzle and Björn van Deest (SÜLZLE Group) and other experts in the fields of construction and architecture. The contributions highlighted the potential of lightweight construction, the decarbonisation of cement and concrete, and CO₂-reduced reinforcement. The importance of durable architecture, reliable data and effective knowledge transfer was also emphasised.

In keeping with the event title, working groups then got down to business: together, we worked out how sustainable building products can become even more relevant and what everyone can do to implement this tomorrow. A tour of the Dotternhausen cement plant provided a practical conclusion to the day.

The event clearly demonstrated how sustainable construction can be achieved and how the bridge between innovation and craftsmanship can be built. A successful start! Many thanks to solid UNIT e.V., Holcim and all participants.
